Sasquatch Brew Fest

Written by Julie on .

PubQuest, for those of you that don’t know, is based out of San Diego. So, we get to attend some really awesome beer festivals and events in our area featuring some amazing local breweries. No complaints here. It is really fun, however, when we get to venture out and try beer festivals in other areas. That was the case when we went to Eugene, Oregon for Eugene Beer Week.

Beer Week in Eugene is the week before Portland’s beer week which makes it a perfect stop before heading up to Portland. Although there were many events to choose from, we focused our time, energy and resources on the Sasquatch Brew Fest (a tough assignment but someone had to do it!). Wow, this was such a fun event and for a great cause.

You can click on the link above to learn all about the history of the SBF but let me give you a brief run down. It all started 12 years ago when a group of local brewers met to mourn the loss, and celebrate the life of their friend and fellow brewer, Glen Hay Falconer. All proceeds from this festival go to the Glen Hay Falconer Foundation, which provides scholarships each year to accredited brewing schools. What a great way to honor and celebrate a friend.

Each year, past scholarship winners come together to make a collaboration beer that is served at the festival. This year’s addition to the Sasquatch Legacy series was a black wheat IPA brewed by last year’s scholarship recipients Acacia Cooper from Anderson Valley Brewing Co., Joel Shields from Rogue Ales, and Sandi Chills from Kona Brewing Co. Job well done my friends.

Now it’s time to look at the photo gallery from the event. Be on the lookout for the tie dye, always in fashion in Eugene Oregon.

Make sure to mark your calendars for next year’s Sasquatch Brew Fest at Ninkasi Brewing. We’ll see you there! As always, you can find it on PubQuest!
